Nove_hrady_praporNové Hrady is a small town in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 2,600 inhabitants. The old-time town Nové Hrady („New Castles“) lies in the Nové Hrady Mountains (Novohradské Hory in Czech) close to the Czech-Austrian border. It is about 30 km south-east of the town České Budějovice on the hill above the Stropnice river (541 m a.s.l.).

Nové Hrady was very important border bastille in the Middle Ages. In 13st century the castle was build by the house of Vítkovci. In 1620 is Nové Hrady becoming a county seat of the house of Buquoys till 1945.
